Volunteer Tutor: Homework Help

Santa Maria Public Library System is seeking volunteer tutors to provide homework help in our library Homework Help Centers. The ideal volunteer will have a background in elementary education or tutoring grade school children, and experience with computers and tablets. Duties will include assisting children in grades K-6 with homework assignments, some of which may require using programs and apps on computers and tablets. Schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3-6 pm or 10-1 Saturday at the main library in Santa Maria. Live Scan fingerprinting is required, and will be scheduled by the volunteer coordinator. A commitment to one year of volunteer service is desired. Training will be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Background in education or tutoring

  • Experience with computers and tablets

  • Experience using the library catalog and collection

  • Ability to commit to one year of volunteer work desired

  • Pass Live Scan fingerprinting

Duties:

  • Assist K-6 students with homework assignments

  • Help students with use of computers, apps and library resources to complete schoolwork

  • Work 3-6 pm during weekdays Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, or Saturday morning 10 am to 1 pm
