Want to learn how you can get hands-on with SEO’s horses? Come to our next New Volunteer Orientation at our training facility in Troutdale and learn how you can help clean stalls, groom and get involved in other SEO programs.

Sign up to attend our Augst 5, 2017 New Volunteer Orientation here: http://signup.com/go/kRxqkZE

Barn volunteers work at the SEO training barn cleaning stalls, keeping the barn and equipment clean, and helping with barn-related projects and events as-needed. Barn volunteers work near and eventually with the horses. Volunteers pursuing this position must commit to cleaning three to four stalls every other week.

New Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite for this position. Barn Volunteer Training is a requirement as well, and new barn volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers who mentor and train the new volunteers until they are able to work more independently.

Be sure to provide a valid email with your signup, because there are volunteer forms that will be emailed and need to be completed and brought to orientation. Please complete the forms before attending NVO. They take some time to fill out, and they must be completed before you may tour the barn.

Mission Statement

Saving Horses Through Support, Education, Rehabilitation & Training.

Description

Sound Equine Options (SEO) is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization under IRS Code section 501(c)(3).

SEO was founded in 2009 by Columbia Equine Hospital's veterinarian Dr. Scott Hansen, and practice manager and veterinary technician Kim Mosiman, seeking to address the plight of horses whose owners could not afford to provide them with basic care, resulting in large-scale neglect and abandonment.

Staffed and run by a large network of volunteers from our local community, SEO exists solely on private donations, small grants and fundraising. SEO does not own its own facility. Instead, it depends on a huge network of foster homes to take in our our rescued and owner surrender horses that come to us from many different situations.

SEO estimates the cost of veterinary care and rehabilitation, along with the cost of the training needed to ensure horses are adoptable, to be approximately $2,000 per horse.
