Volunteers are urgently needed to help people file their income taxes. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ( VITA) program sponsored by the United Way of Marion County, operates six sites around Marion County, FL. Last tax season over 2,400 families and individuals were served with our free service. Appointments at all our locations were booked solid by mid-March with four weeks left in the season, so you can see that the need is there. FREE training is provided by IRS certified instructors and all materials are provided. The first training class is just after Thanksgiving and is repeated in early January. No experience is required. You will be learning how to use the latest tax preparation software as well as the current tax rules and regulations. You will be asked to be available to volunteer ten( 10 ) hours or more per week during the January to April tax season.
There will be an informational meeting in early November for anyone interested in volunteering.
