Veterans have a bond with each other that no one else can understand. In order to help support our Veteran Hospice patients, we are actively seeking Veterans and others who have an interest in helping our Military. Veteran Volunteers assist in honor ceremonies and visit with our Veteran hospice patients and families.
Encompass Health -Hospice is a member of the national We Honor Veterans Program and honors each Veteran hospice patient with a pinning ceremony. At the ceremony the Veteran patient is presented a Veteran pin, certificate of appreciation for their military service and an American flag. The Veteran volunteer may also provide the Veteran patient with companionship, interaction, comfort, and emotional support.
New volunteers are mentored by the Volunteer Coordinator until they feel comfortable and confident in providing assistance independently. Volunteers are never expected to assist with the personal care of patients and are assigned based on their interests and what tasks they feel they can easily accomplish.

Encompass is looking for volunteers to provide companionship and support to patients during their final months and weeks of life. Volunteers provide non-medical services and respite time for caregivers and family members. As a hospice volunteer, you will be given choices as to how much and what type of things you want to do. Here are just a few specific ways hospice volunteers can help: Provide companionship and socialization, help with general office support, play games, read, or listen to music with patients, assist with light house cleaning, walk/care for family pets, create a photo album of patient and family, the opportunities are endless!
