ORGANIZATION: Tubman

The Legal Counseling Advocate assists clients and attorneys at legal advice clinics focusing on divorce, child custody and other family law issues. Volunteer for 4-8 hours a month, 1 year commitment preferred. Evening or Friday morning availability needed. Legal advice clinics are located throughout the greater Twin Cities area.

Impact:

  • Assist in providing legal services to those with limited access.
  • Provide services that enable individuals to better navigate the legal system and community resources.

Position Qualifications:

  • Completion of Tubman’s Volunteer and Intern training series.
  • Interest in family law issues and legal resources.
  • Ability and willingness to listen actively, and respond appropriately to clients.
  • Awareness of issues affecting our clients and their families.
  • Awareness of and respect for diversity.
  • Good communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to various Tubman sites.
  • Spanish-speakers encouraged to apply.

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
