PET ASSISTANCE FOUNDATION NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Please consider helping rescued cats find a permanent, loving home by volunteering an hour or so a week to clean cat habitats at Lakewood or Downey PETCO. You can volunteer in the evening or morning. PETCO’s hours of operation due to COVID are 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. If you wish to minimize contact with the public, we recommend volunteers help in the morning from 8:00 to 9:00 or in the evenings from 7:00 to 7:45 when the store is closed to the public. However, you are welcome to adapt your volunteer time from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. or 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. In accordance with safety regulations, we require you wear a mask at all times, use gloves and engage in timely handwashing. We require just one volunteer at a time or two volunteers from the same family. Our goal is to minimize exposure to other people. Basically, it is just you and the cats, and they are deeply appreciative of any attention you can give them.

We are in urgent need of volunteers after months of shutting down the program due to COVID, while somehow managing to help the constant flow of homeless dogs and cats that end up on our doorstep. We welcome all volunteers, including those fulfillingcommunity service obligations. Please Join our team today. The animals need YOU!

If you cannot volunteer at PETCO, please consider fostering a dog or cat while we attempt to place a pet in a loving home. Contact Pet Assistance Foundation by email petassistancefoundation@gmail.com.

Mission Statement

Pet Assistance Foundation was founded in 1955 to help stop the suffering of animals caused by pet overpopulation and to promote spay/neuter efforts throughout Southern California. We do this through education and financial subsidy to low income pet owners. We also support animal rights legislation. We are supportive of other animal welfare groups and work with them to improve the lives of animals, their owners and the community.

Description

PLEASE SEND US YOUR PHONE NUMBER, SO WE MAY CONTACT YOU TO SPEED UP THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

Pet Assistance Foundation has nine branches in communities through Southern California, including contract branches in Victorville and San Diego. We have a toll free hotline that we advertise online, by brochure and through yellow page directories. Our hotline is for pet owners who are very low income to call if they need help to spay or neuter their pets. Volunteers who work on the hotline return calls, determine the financial needs of the pet owner and make a donation towards the surgery if warranted. We then assist in finding a good low cost vet in their area that takes our donation pledge. We also are a referral service for people who need help in finding a good vet for spay/neuter and other needs. We often in assist in calls that have nothing to do with fixing a pet. Some of our branches do garage sales to raise money for medical emergency calls. Our volunteers help find good vets in their area that will lower their prices for our referrals and take our subsidies. Our Long Beach branch does adoption and rescue of cats and dogs; they hold adoption events every weekend. They have people who foster the animals and help with daily care.
