Make-A-Wish(r) Georgia has several internships that offer on-the-job training as well as a chance to impact the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions. We welcome current students to apply for one of these internship opportunities.
Internship Requirements
Internships are available during the Fall, Spring & Summer semesters. Internships are unpaid but are available for course credit (contingent upon university approval). We have openings in our Atlanta, GA office.
Qualified applicants should possess strong written and oral communication skills, working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite which includes Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint, working knowledge of Raisers’ Edge, and should demonstrate maturity and responsibility. Candidates bilingual in both Spanish and English are needed and encouraged to apply.
Spring 2018 Internship dates: January, 15 th 2017-April, 27 th 2017

For students seeking internship for CHFD/HDFS credit or for Senior Capstone placement with site placement deadlines between October 13 th and November 10 th, please submit your application by Monday, October 2 nd and include your site placement deadlines.
Available internships include:Corporate Development Intern
- Supporting Corporate Team in conducting Prospect Research, creating Company Profiles, and developing Presentations to support solicitation strategies.
- Assisting with Corporate events such as organizing MAWGA collateral and assembling SWAG bags and thank you certificates.
- Maintenance of database records with consistent tracking in Raiser’s Edge.
- Aiding in stewardship initiatives to further MAWGA’s efforts in donor retention.
- Ideal for candidates pursuing a degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration or related field.
Wish Coordinator Intern
- Responsible for assisting the Wish Coordinators in all aspects of wish granting
- Assist with sneak peek letters
- Create toy boxes for wishes
- Write donor thank you letters
- Complete wish file close-out
- Update wish database
- Scan necessary paperwork for each wish
- Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Family and Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or related field.
Medical Outreach Intern
- Responsible for assisting the Medical Outreach Manager in all aspects of the mission delivery, including but not limited to; managing wish files, communicating with medical professionals, assisting with referral calls, and working with volunteers.
- Assists in planning and executing recognition of referral sources.
- Responsible for maintaining communication with the wish families.
- Ideal for candidates pursuing a degree in Family and Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or related field.
Special Events Intern
- Responsible for supporting fundraising staff in all aspects of revenue generation from fundraising event to cultivating individual and major donors.
- Assisting with design, copy writing and production of donor materials and ongoing correspondence.
- Conducting prospect research and analysis to support solicitation strategies.
- Assisting with the organization and tracking of donor and sponsor information.
- Assisting with the coordination day-of vendors for Wish Ball 2017 (Gala), Walk for Wishes Athens and Tournament of Wishes.
- Assisting with in-kind solicitation for auction items.
- Ideal for candidates pursuing a degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration or related field.
- Main point of contact for the Make-A-Wish Georgia chapter website
- Use the SiteCore content system to update chapter website
- Schedule and manage any photographers and videographers needed
- Serve as the primary graphic designer for the chapter
- Design promotional posters, flyers, handouts, etc.
- Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing.
- Pre-plan social media content using HootSuite program
- Post organically on all of our social media platforms
- Create engaging blog and social media content
- Complete social media communication requests received from staff members in a timely manner
- Compose wish stories for our chapter website, Adopt-A-Wish donors, and high cost wish assist
- Responsible for creating a social media strategy surrounding upcoming chapter signature events
- Writing sample is required along with resume and cover letter.
- Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing.
Volunteer Services Intern
- Assists with recruiting and onboarding of new volunteers, including phone interviews
- Volunteer file management and record keeping
- Assists with tracking volunteer engagement
- Maintains volunteer files in compliance with national standards
- Organizes volunteer recognition efforts
- Must be comfortable and confident communicating over the phone.
- Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Human Services, Human Resources, Business, Public Relations, or other related fields. All majors are, however welcome

Although it has become one of the world's most well-known charities, Make-A-Wish has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish Georgia grants wishes for kids right here in Georgia, and we need volunteers throughout the state to make wishes possible in your community. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.
