The Neighborhood Harvest Program is one of the many programs that falls under the Garden to Table umbrella. Through this program we organize weekly fruit harvest events in San Jose. Every month we harvest an average of 1,000 lbs. of fruit and donate it to local food programs. This program takes advantage of the abundance of fruit trees throughout San Jose to address two key challenges in our food system: food waste, and a lack of access to healthy food options.
We are launching a new volunteer program to engage community members in finding homeowners to share their fruit! This position will involve surveying your neighborhood for fruit trees, and reaching out to your neighbors to let them know about the Neighborhood Harvest Program. We are always looking for new trees to harvest.
This position is flexible, but will usually take place on Saturdays or weekday evenings. Let us know if you have an interest. Please provide your availability and a brief explanation of why you are interested. We can answer any questions or concerns.More opportunities with Garden to Table

About Garden to Table
Location:

Mission Statement
Our mission is to educate and create a network of food systems that builds community and improves access to healthy food.
Description
Urban residents have been disconnected from where their food comes from for generations and Garden to Table believes this is a central reason why public health has steadily deteriorated. Food is a fundamental part of everyday life and it should be grown where people live.
In October of 2013, Garden to Table installed 2,500 square feet of raised beds on a previously vacant lot to develop Taylor St Farm. It is a one acre urban farm located in downtown San Jose.
Our mission is to educate and create a network of food systems that builds community and improves access to healthy food. We do this by growing unique and delicious produce on our farm, educating the public. We strive to transform the way cities are fed and connect people with great local food!
