ORGANIZATION: Evergreen Health Services

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 7 people are interested

The Buddy Program is designed to provide Evergreen clients with one-on-one support from trained volunteers. These trained volunteers-called Buddies-will serve as companions, helpers (e.g., shopping), advocates, or a combination of all of these. Buddies are not Care Coordinators or Counselors; rather, they provide additional social support and mentoring for Evergreen’s clients.

Evergreen clients are referred to the program by staff, and are screened before they are paired with a Buddy.

  • Buddies meet twice per month for a one-year commitment.
  • The screening process for volunteers includes an application, interview, and background check.
  • Volunteers must be sensitive to HIV and LGBTQ issues.
  • Monthly check-ins with both the Buddy and the client will be conducted to assess the progress of the relationship.
  • Volunteers must be trained to become a Buddy. Training will be Wednesday, October 21 st, at 5:30pm on the 5 th floor of 206 Elmwood Ave.

About Evergreen Health Services

Location:

206 South Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14201, US

Mission Statement

We foster healthy communities by providing medical, supportive and behavioral services to individuals and families in Western New York, especially those in marginalized populations and/or challenged by chronic or life threatening diseases.

Description

Founded as AIDS Community Services in 1983, the Evergreen Association historically addressed the crisis generated by HIV/AIDS and other sexually-related infections in WNY. As many of these illnesses have responded successfully to medical therapy, the Association has developed a wide range of life-enhancing services to support the ability of our clients to lead healthy, secure and satisfying lives as members of the regional community.

Today, Evergreen has grown to support the entire community. Increasingly, we work with underserved and/or stigmatized individuals dealing with multiple chronic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and heart disease, mental health challenges and substance abuse; as well as with a variety of sexual minorities, many whom are inadequately treated by mainstream providers.
