Volunteer in Latin America with NPH Mexico (Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos)
6 people are interested
Do you love children? Are you interested in serving in Latin America for a year? NPH USA helps screen, place and support volunteers who serve for a year or more in one of the nine homes of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH): Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Bolivia, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. For the last 60 years Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos has provided a loving home to orphaned, abandoned and at-risk children. Children are not up for adoption, but live in a family environment where they receive love, education, health care, and life skills.
Volunteers must commit for a year, and have a job on site during the day. Most volunteers work in education, administration and health care. In addition to their job, volunteers spend time with a group of children each evening. Volunteers live in community with other international volunteers from around the world.
NPH does not ask you to "fundraise" before you leave home. Rather, we provide room and board, a modest stipend, and international health care while you are abroad, serving at one of our homes. Volunteers must pay for their flights to and from the countries where they serve.
Most of the homes accept volunteers to begin in either July or January, and it is best to apply 6-9 months in advance of the start date. We have a July 1 deadline for January applications, and a January 1 deadline for July applications. We accept applications after those deadlines, but we like to receive them all by the same date if possible. Please apply even if the deadline has passed.

NPH USA transforms the lives of orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children with homes, healthcare and educational programs, making a positive impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. We support Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for "Our Little Brothers and Sisters"), which is currently raising more than 3,400 boys and girls in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. An additional 1,600 students who live outside the homes receive scholarships, meals and health care. NPH outreach programs served thousands of people each year.
Our International Volunteer Program sends qualified individuals, married couples and families to serve for a year in any of the 9 NPH homes. Volunteers hold a job, and spend time with the children. Volunteers live in community with other international volunteers from around the world.
NPH provides volunteers with room and board, a small stipend, and access to limited health care. NPH USA pays a portion of volunteers' health insurance. Volunteers pay for their transportation to and from the country where they will serve.
Start dates are mid January and early July. For a July start date, applications are due by January 1. For a January start, applications are due July 1. We often have openings after the application deadline, so please apply even if the deadline has passed
