Safe at Home Volunteer

As Minnesota's population continues to age, there has been an extensive focus by the state's 2030 plan to keep people in their homes as long as possible to ensure better quality of life and a decreased cost to institutions. The needs of aging homeowners changes and can at times be quite expensive.

Rebuilding Together Twin Cities exists to bring homeowners in need and volunteers together to help strengthen communities and keep people in their homes. By participating in our Safe at Home program, you can help prevent future accidents and falls in homes. Volunteers are dispatched in groups of 2 - 3 people with full training and assistance from Rebuilding Together Staff; most volunteer sites last no longer than 2 hours.

Volunteers can be expected to install grab bars, railings, and other minor safety items in a senior citizen's home to their custom needs. Prior knowledge of basic power tools is a plus, but not required. We will provide all training and guidance.

Come learn new skills, meet some new members in your community, and make a difference.

Mission Statement

The mission of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities is repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives.

Description

Rebuilding Together renovates and revitalizes homes to help homeowners regain a sense of pride in themselves and their community. It began in 1988 as a national organization with 13 affiliates across the country, born out of the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. Today, the Rebuilding Together network consists of 129 affiliates, located throughout the United States.

When qualified homeowners are not capable of making needed repairs, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities will coordinate the volunteers, skilled labor, tools and supplies necessary to repair the homes. We also rehabilitate properties that house qualifying nonprofit organizations serving our community. We focus our efforts on older adults, individuals living with disabilities, active and retired members of the armed services, and families with children, tailoring services to meet the needs of each individual homeowner.

In the 23 years since our founding locally, we have renovated and revitalized 1,111 homes, 74 nonprofit centers and community spaces, and four small businesses with the help of 11,415 volunteers, bringing hope and renewed pride to neighborhoods throughout the Twin Cities.
