ORGANIZATION: LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Community Services

LOSS Heart

LOSS has a simple way to brighten someone's day! National Make a Difference Day is Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 and we are hosting a Care Basket drive! We are asking for donated items that can be included in Care Baskets for those bereaved by suicide. We are also asking for assistance in assembling baskets and resource folders. Our goal is to make 60 baskets and 200 resource packets on Make a Difference Day. Register to participate here: http://franklincountyloss.org/events/loss-care-basket-drive/ And here is a list of items we need! http://www.sokindregistry.org/registry/9353 If you can't donate any items that's okay - come help us assemble baskets and resource folders! Providing someone who was recently bereaved by suicide with a surprise carebasket is kind, compassionate and thoughtful. 178 people died by suicide in 2015 right here in Franklin County. This has left hundreds if not thousands of people to pick up the pieces. Often times suicide grief is very complicated and isolating. Sadly, those who have lost someone to suicide are at a higher risk for experiencing serious psychological pain and suicide attempts.

Mission Statement

LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Community Services exists to be an instillation of hope to those bereaved by suicide.

Description

LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Community Services is a survivor-led peer support organization.

Trained volunteers - many of whom are survivors of a suicide loss - provide immediate assistance to the newly bereaved to help them cope with the trauma of their loss.

LOSS trained volunteers can also meet with survivors in the weeks and months to come. Suicide grief can be different from other types of losses. Often suicide survivors feel isolated - like no one understands their grief. Connecting with someone who has a similar lived experience can be encouraging and provide a sense of "normalcy" in a very difficult, uncomfortable journey.

LOSS provides follow-up contact with survivors by sending cards, free resource materials and providing connections to local services and support groups in the Franklin County community. There are many other opportunities to serve. Visit our website to register for an upcoming Information Session.

LOSS also hosts Remembrance Events and Support Groups
