Purpose:
One Cool Earth and Paso Robles Schools seek a volunteer to assist with plant propagation in our school’s horticultural center and school gardens, including greenhouses. Use your knowledge and expertise about gardens and plants to help serve your community and foster learning in schools! Both decorative and edible plants are utilized in beautifying school gardens and growing produce for school-based nutrition programs.
Location(s):
Public schools in Paso Robles
Key Responsibilities:
Share extensive knowledge of a variety of plants, including: when to plant and harvest certain varieties and how to select specific plants for school gardens
Help to grow plants in community schools from seeds, cuttings, bulbs, and other plant parts
Time Requirements/ Frequency:
Group workdays or done independently (flexible)
1-3 hour intervals (weekdays and weekends during school year and/ or summer)
Frequency is flexible--1 - 4 work days per month preferred
Qualifications and Requirements:
Gardening knowledge and experience encouraged, though not required!
Provide one’s own transportation to and from the site
Responsible and trustworthy, as volunteer will be needed to oversee and open gardens unsupervised
18 years and older or with parents permission
Volunteer Paperwork with school site will need to be completed
Training:
1 hour orientation

Every child deserves a place to grow. One Cool Earth is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in San Luis Obispo county since 2001. We've united with communities and schools to create thriving school gardens that grow student health, academics, and well-being.
Description
We are looking for volunteers in the following areas and more!
1. Site Selection: We elect to work at school sites based on site need and willingness to
create, utilize and maintain outdoor classrooms.
2. Planning: We listen to school site stakeholders to create goals for the outdoor classroom,
assessing community, student, and school site interests, needs and resources.
3. Development and Construction: We draw upon community assets to build programming
and facilities that serve the unique needs of each site.
4. Maintenance and Operation: While we ultimately hope to support the self-sufficiency of the
school sites we work with, we are committed to providing longterm technical assistance,
volunteer coordination, and grantwriting for our sites..
