Purpose:
One Cool Earth and Paso Robles schools are looking for volunteer designers and planners to help us create functional, interactive outdoor classrooms and gardens. There are several schools in the district that lack a garden and need assistance in the planning and design of one. We also have schools in need of remodelling their current garden. Help out your local schools and build up your portfolio by choosing to volunteer today!
Location(s):
Public schools in Paso Robles
Key Responsibilities:
Work with a variety of stakeholders to gather community input and determine garden features based on desired use and aesthetics
Use innovative and unique planning to assist in the layout and design of outdoor classrooms in local schools
Utilize design skills to tie in new features with current ones in order to promote cohesiveness and effectiveness in outdoor classrooms
Time Requirements/ Frequency:
~5 hours for each planning session
Qualifications and Requirements:
Background experience in outdoor classroom planning/ maintenance encouraged
Students and educators
Have extensive knowledge of a variety of plants and outdoor classroom design
Must work well with others as volunteer may need to collaborate in order to create productive and efficient outdoor classrooms
Training:
1 hour orientation

Every child deserves a place to grow. One Cool Earth is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in San Luis Obispo county since 2001. We've united with communities and schools to create thriving school gardens that grow student health, academics, and well-being.
Description
We are looking for volunteers in the following areas and more!
1. Site Selection: We elect to work at school sites based on site need and willingness to
create, utilize and maintain outdoor classrooms.
2. Planning: We listen to school site stakeholders to create goals for the outdoor classroom,
assessing community, student, and school site interests, needs and resources.
3. Development and Construction: We draw upon community assets to build programming
and facilities that serve the unique needs of each site.
4. Maintenance and Operation: While we ultimately hope to support the self-sufficiency of the
school sites we work with, we are committed to providing longterm technical assistance,
volunteer coordination, and grantwriting for our sites..
