What to give back to your community? Why not help mentor at-risk teens. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County is inn great need of mentors for our teens (ages 12-18). We are starting a new mentor program and need mentors. Although the end date says October of 2016, you are not required to stay the full year, though it would be appreciated, we at least need a commitment to donate 1 hour a week with up to 4 members at a time for a minimum of 4 months, 12 months being ideal.

Mentor at one of our 13 Clubs- From West Palm Beach, to Belle Glade, to Boca Raton, and in between.

So what happens?

During your meetings you’ll engage your teen(s), up to 4 at a time (it can 1:1, just no more than 4 in a group), through prearranged teen programs, or your choice of pre-approved topics. You’ll interact with the same mentees (members) in order to increase successfulness of the match. While mentoring you’ll also be required to complete a 1 page score sheet to rate the progress and events you and the mentee engaged in. All meetings will take place at the Club during the week and between Club hours. Those hours will be 4pm-8pm mon-fri. And 7:30am-6pm on non-school holidays. The only commitment is to be able to meet for 1 hour a week, 4 weeks a month, during the school year- about 10 months.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor you’ll have to complete a background check and finger scanning, all paid for by us, and complete a volunteer and mentor application. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to ask.

How do I start?

To get started, please select a Club from and find the Club nearest you. Once selected, email me back when you’re available for a tour. Afterwards, we can schedule your first day of service: volunteering. Upon completion of your first day of service, we’ll schedule your background check and screening.

You’ll volunteer a couple times to get a feel for the teens, the Club, and the atmosphere of both. Once you’ve found some teens that have gravitated towards you, we can begin the matching process. No one likes being forced to do anything; therefore we let the matches happen organically- by way of interaction in the Club.

If you decide mentoring isn’t for you at any time during the process, don’t worry. Simply notify me of your concerns and we can help you find another way to give back. Thank you for your interest,
