Best Buddies Citizens Program!

Best Buddies International is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

After people with intellectual and developmental disabilities graduate from school, there are very few services that provide opportunities for social integration, which is exactly where the Citizens Program comes in. Best Buddies Citizens Program pairs adults over the age of 18 with IDD in one-to-one friendships with individuals without IDD.

The one-to-one friendship pairs will be same gender, live in nearby areas, and have similar interests. Each pair is expected to communicate once a week, and see each other twice a month. This mutually enriching friendship provides opportunities for social integration and personal growth for individuals with IDD.

We are looking for volunteers to commit to a one year friendship with an individual with IDD. We need volunteers throughout the state, so please contact us! :)

Mission Statement

Best Buddies Connecticut is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Description

Best Buddies demonstrates its mission through six separate and distinct programs. Best Buddies Middle and High Schools matches students with intellectual disabilities with their non-disabled peers in one-to-one friendships through chapter activities within the schools. Best Buddies Colleges pairs up college students with persons with intellectual disabilities in the community for friendship and socialization.
