Transplanting

Native Plant Nursery volunteers work and learn together, collecting and cleaning seeds, propagating and separating seedlings, and potting up and caring for mature plants. Nursery volunteers also staff our public plant sales. Volunteers are taught appropriate horticultural techniques and become knowledgeable about wild plants of our region. Volunteers work on Fridays (mornings in the summer, afternoons in the spring and fall).

Mission Statement

D&R Greenway Land Trust's mission is to: Preserve and protect a permanent network of natural lands and open spaces, creating the conditions for a healthy and diverse environment to flourish; Provide the public with appropriate access to these areas, encouraging active lifestyles and a greater appreciation of the natural world; Inspire a conservation ethic promoting policies, educational programs and partnerships that result in a public commitment to land preservation

Description

D&R Greenway Land Trust is central New Jersey's non-profit land preservation organization, founded in 1989. D&R Greenway permanently preserves watershed lands and large-scale landscapes, thereby preventing the loss of open space to development. The operating region consists of over 1,500 square miles, encompassing portions of the Delaware, Raritan and Millstone River watersheds and the Delaware & Raritan Canal. This includes Mercer, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Burlington and Monmouth counties, and has broadened to include preservation of farm land in Salem County in the area of Mannington Meadows. D&R Greenway serves as the steward on many preserves and easement lands.

What sets D&R Greenway apart is the many public programs offered to connect the public with nature and inspire a conservation ethic, including art galleries at the Johnson Education Center, Second Saturday public walks, and frequent guest lectures.
