The Oakland Catholic Worker coordinates a Christmas gift program that provides gifts for around 250 people in need (mostly children) every year. Volunteers are needed to call eligible families to schedule interviews about what they want for Christmas, and to and remind them to pick up their gifts.
Most families will speak Spanish or Cantonese, so volunteers should be proficient enough to schedule appointments in one of those languages. Phone and internet access are necessary, but volunteers can work from home.
Calls will take place from October 4th-14th, and from December 5th-12th.

Description
The Oakland Catholic Worker has served as a transitional shelter and accompaniment program for Latin American refugees since 1986. In addition we serve our East Oakland neighbors in need by offering:
- English as a Second Language classes
- Hot food and weekly grocery distribution programs
- A gathering space for the religious and cultural needs of our extended community
- Advocacy promoting change with those marginalized by existing unjust political, social and economic structures
