AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort) is one of Atlanta's only wildlife rehabilitation and education centers, taking in all species of injured, ill, and orphaned native wildlife. And, we need your help!
At the Center, you'll learn to care for wild animals - both babies and adults. The animals include bobcats, hawks, owls, songbirds, opossums, rabbits, squirrels, and many others. The goal is to release them back to the wild. Caring for these animals includes making food/formula, feeding them, assisting with basic medical care, and preparing rehabilitation enclosures that mimic natural habitats. You'll also be cleaning cages, washing towels and bedding, and washing bowls and bottles. We are the animals' caretakers until they are strong enough to be on their own.
There are many special rewards for your work - such as experiencing the thrill of watching a baby open its eyes for the first time and start exploring the world around them; or seeing an injured or orphaned animal you fed by hand and helped nurture back to health, being released, and running free. You'll also be learning about our Ambassador animals, those that can't be released and live at the Center. We educate others about them and how to co-exist with native wildlife
So, come join us for a unique hands-on volunteer opportunity; one that will enrich you and the world you live in.
