Educurious

We are currently seeking virtual volunteers with a variety of backgrounds to become part of Educurious' Expert Connection. Over 800 students will be looking for "experts" in different fields to discuss career options, learn about pathways to jobs, further education needed, etc. We are looking for volunteers that our students can reach out to periodically throughout the school year for career advice. Students may message simply review your profile (think LinkedIN), send a message or two, or develop into a longer relationship.

As you know, we are all products of our network, and one of our goals is to expand that world for our students. When students are exposed to working professionals they often work harder on assignments, are more engaged, become empowered, and are exposed to new careers. You are really helping make a difference!

All jobs/careers welcome!

About Us

Educurious is an innovative solution with the goal of transforming the experience of high school for teachers & students. Our solutions use a blended learning model featuring teachers as guides, relevant and interesting projects for students, as well as professionals (experts) to provide feedback and real world experiences to students. Curriculum descriptions can be accessed by looking at our website: www.educurious.org.

How does it work?

Utilizing the Educurious Platform, students will ask Experts for feedback on select assignments. Experts are not expected to grade student's work. Instead, their primary role is to enrich the student's understanding of their work by serving as the professional who can help further develop the student's skills and expose them to new exciting careers. All communication with the students is asynchronous so Experts can fit it in around their schedule and they do not have to visit the classroom or be available during school hours.

How to get started?

  1. Complete an application here: educuriousexperts.chronus.com
  2. After your application is reviewed we will conduct a background screening through Backgrounds Online (since we're working with minors). Educurious covers the cost of the screening.
  3. You will receive a login and password for the Educurious Platform.
  4. Educurious will all assign you to a school & introduce to your partner teacher & students. OR students will reach out to you on the Chronus platform.

We hope you will consider participating in the Educurious Expert Network. Working together we can provide better educational outcomes for U.S. high school students. Email sgour@educurious.org for additional information.

Mission Statement

Educurious is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the educational outcomes of U.S. high school students. We are creating the high school curriculum that students need now for success in college, careers and life. We are reinventing the traditional engagement model to be meaningful and compelling to 21st century learners, putting into practice what we know really works based on deep and wide research. The Educurious curriculum is built on new materials, connections and delivery systems that capture students’ interest and imagination and equip them for success in the real world.

Description

Educurious is on a mission to reduce our nation’s high school dropout rates. Our project-based curriculum connects students to real issues they care about and equips them with the lifelong learning skills for success. Our courses foster collaboration among students, teachers and our global network of real-world Experts.

We are pleased to be funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and to work in conjunction with the University of Washington College of Education and the Institute for Math and Science Education (funded by the National Science Foundation). Together, we’re creating the 21st-century education that our kids and our country need to thrive in a fast-changing world.
