Earthplace trails

  • Weed, rake, trim, transplant, and separate plants in the Native Plant Courtyard Garden and the Bird and Butterfly Garden.

  • Help with ongoing trail maintenance: Remove trash, edge trails, assess hazardous trees, refresh trail markers, etc.

  • Remove invasive species: Earthplace is home to a wide variety of flora, and we occasionally need to remove invasive species in order to maintain that diversity.

  • Help on a variety of building/construction projects. Specific needs: Carriers to transport our birds of prey to vet appointments and off-site presentations; an outdoor playpen to allow our indoor animals to enjoy some fresh air and remain safe from predators; a blind for bird-watching on our trails; nest boxes to attract a variety of wildlife.

Please note:
  • This volunteer opportunites does not have a set volunteer program. Earthplace, Inc. utilizes volunteers to help tackle our to-do list as things come up, so there are not necessarily regular jobs or projects. The spring and summer are our busy times verse the fall winter are much slower.
  • All volunteers must agree to a background checks, the volunteer is responsible to cover the cost of the background check.
  • 18 year old or older only

Description

Founded in 1958 and accredited by The American Association of Museums, Earthplace maintains a 62-acre wildlife sanctuary with more than two miles of trails, an interactive natural history museum, and live animal viewing and learning in Animal Hall and the outdoor Birds of Prey Exhibit. Earthplace is home to a state-licensed preschool, summer camp, and numerous after school nature programs for elementary through middle school children. High school interns and adult volunteer participate in Harbor Watch, our premier citizen science-driven water quality monitoring program backed by our own EPA-certified lab. With all of these resources, Earthplace offers numerous educational experiential learning programs and events for children, teens, families, and adults that provide pathways to nature and environmental understanding.
