Veterans/Military

Veterans are a special group of people! They train and often sacrifice their lives to protect others in a way we often don't understand living in our free, democratic society. Veterans and Military men, women, and their families understand what it is to say "Freedom is not Free". And it's only natural to look back at the things that have happened in life and want to talk about it with someone who understands.

As one of the few 3-Star We Honor Veteran Hospices in our state, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care Monroe serves Veterans at end of life physically, spiritually, and emotionally. The We Honor Veterans Initiative serves as an awareness campaign to Hospice Professionals, the Community, and Veterans themselves about care at end of life. We also Honor our Veterans through Private Pinning Ceremonies, Community Service Initiatives, and continue to gain education regarding post traumatic stress at the end of life.

We are searching for individuals who could spend at least 20-30 minutes twice a month with a Veteran sharing in that common knowledge of military culture and life.

We provide information about death and dying, boundaries and communication, etc during our orientation. If you are a Veteran or military personnel or family member, we hope this is of particular interest to you!

Mission Statement

LHC Group Hospice exists to provide symptom contol and support for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible.

LHC Group Hospice recognizes dying as a part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life.

LHC Group Hospice affirms life and neither hastens nor postpones death.

LHC Group Hospice exists in the hope and belief that, through appropriate care and the support of a caring community sensitive to their needs, terminally ill patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death this is satisfactory to them.

LHC Group Hospice offers palliative care to all terminally ill patients and support to those patients and families without regard for diagnosis, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, race, creed, disability, age, place of residence, or ability to pay.

Description

LHC Group Hospice see death as a natural part of the life process. Our goal is to affirm a person's right to be in control of their life, to be free from pain, and to die with dignity. With the support or the hospice team, the psychological needs of the family and the terminally ill person are addressed. This allows them the opportunity to focus on maintaining quality of life during the last phases of an incurable disease.

We see it as a duty, both employees and volunteers, to become familiar with the mission of the organization and to articulate that mission to the community.
