Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care offer bereavement care to families that have lost their loved one in our service for up to 13 months. At times volunteers may visit the home of the bereaved, have coffee somewhere, or just call from the office.
We are looking for volunteers that are willing to take our training, be oriented as a bereavement volunteer, receive death and dying information, and offer support to families or individuals by phone for up to monthly, quarterly, or as often as you're able to volunteer. We request at least a 3 month commitment to develop rapport and support. There's also an opportunity to participate in the grief support group for personal and volunteer coping skills.

Mission Statement
LHC Group Hospice exists to provide symptom contol and support for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible.
LHC Group Hospice recognizes dying as a part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life.
LHC Group Hospice affirms life and neither hastens nor postpones death.
LHC Group Hospice exists in the hope and belief that, through appropriate care and the support of a caring community sensitive to their needs, terminally ill patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death this is satisfactory to them.
LHC Group Hospice offers palliative care to all terminally ill patients and support to those patients and families without regard for diagnosis, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, race, creed, disability, age, place of residence, or ability to pay.
Description
LHC Group Hospice see death as a natural part of the life process. Our goal is to affirm a person's right to be in control of their life, to be free from pain, and to die with dignity. With the support or the hospice team, the psychological needs of the family and the terminally ill person are addressed. This allows them the opportunity to focus on maintaining quality of life during the last phases of an incurable disease.
We see it as a duty, both employees and volunteers, to become familiar with the mission of the organization and to articulate that mission to the community.
