Description
The Nature Discover Center is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for science, nature, and children to volunteer with our field trip program. This volunteer will work closely with our staff naturalists and other volunteer teachers to lead our discovery-based field trip program Nature at Your Doorstep.This individual will be a crucial member of the team in adding to the overall Nature Discovery Center field trip experience.
The Nature Discovery Center is a nonprofit nature center and 4-acre nature park located in Bellaire, TX. We believe a personal connection to nature is an essential part of life. We ignite life-long curiosity, understanding, and respect for nature through education.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Co-lead our discovery-based field trip program Nature at Your Doorstep.
- Provide interactive hands-on experiences in our science based Discovery Rooms.
- Volunteer Teachers will lead a tour of the nature center and park to a small group (8-12) of early elementary students and their adult chaperones.
- Training is provided.
- Field trips are scheduled weekday mornings. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour time blocks.
- Frequency is flexible, weekly or monthly.

Description
The Nature Discovery Center's Goals are to spark interest in nature and science, nourish the inquiring mind, stimulate a desire to explore, discover, and learn, and keep a sense of wonder alive; to develop student’s critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills needed in all walks of life, and give them the tools to explore, discover, and learn; to enrich and enhance educational opportunities for children, particularly those under-served, to improve their chances of success in school and in life; to improve the teaching of science in the elementary grades by example, teacher training, and publications; to advance general understanding of how nature affects our lives, and of the ecological systems that keep the earth in balance; and to foster love and respect for nature that inspires people to become responsible caretakers of the earth.
