We are looking for volunteers to facilitate our monthly Fresh Conversations meetings for seniors at congregate meal sites across central Iowa.
Fresh Conversations is a healthy living program for seniors created by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The program combines monthly educational newsletters with small group discussions to increase the personal health of older adults across the state.
To bring the program to more seniors, we need additional volunteers to facilitate our Fresh Conversations meetings. These meetings typically last 30 minutes and only need to be held once a month per meal site.
Healthy living is the main theme of our meetings, but a background in a health field is not required for our volunteers. We provide training and monthly guides that make it easy for anyone to facilitate a Fresh Conversations meeting.
An additional responsibility for our volunteers is preparing food samples to share at your meetings. The recipes are detailed in our monthly facilitator’s guide and all shopping costs are compensated by the program. Fresh Conversations even prepares our facilitators further by providing them with cooking utensils, food storage containers, and coolers.
