Purpose

To organize nutritional support in the forms of food supplements, meal programs, vitamins, and clean water etc. as they arise to orphans and destitute children around the world.

  • Work with other AC directors to determine which children have nutritional needs to be addressed.
  • Organized and monitor on-going nutritional problems for children in AC programs, including monitoring children’s heights and weights, whole school/orphanage meal programs, and monitoring current nutrition programs to ensure the children’s needs are being met.
  • Work with medical director to ensure children with malnutrition or other medical conditions also receive the medical care needed. Needs of specific children should be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Promote AC nutrition programs through the website, newsletters, yahoo groups, or other avenues, including finding sponsors for children with specific nutritional needs.
  • Provide timely updates to sponsors throughout duration of program.
  • Recruit volunteers to help coordinate programs or provide assistance in any of the above areas.
  • Work with Fundraising/Grant Writing Director to find grants or other funding for specific needs.
  • Provide updates on status of nutritional programs, numbers of children served, etc. to Executive Director on a quarterly basis at a minimum.

  • Research nutritional supplements available for donation by corporations as well as possible ways to ship items to children around the world in the most cost effective manner possible.
  • Other nutrition related duties as assigned.

Guidelines

  • All communication shared publicly regarding the orphanages, countries where programs reside, and the nutrition programs will be positive. Negative information about orphanages, schools, countries, the condition of individual children, or China’s policies on Tibet will not be discussed publicly.
  • The full name of children residing in orphanages or schools will not be shared with sponsors if they might become available for adoption. Only partial names or fictitious names assigned by coordinator or director will be used.
  • Any sensitive photos taken or any sensitive information received regarding a child or orphanage will not be shared outside AC. At all times, volunteers and others associated with AC need to be cognizant of the repercussions of their actions and speech and how what they say or write and the images they use will be seen by the public. Our mission is to do as much good for orphans as we can and making disparaging remarks or broadcasting negative images is more likely to hurt than help those we serve. Any concerns or questions should be directed to the Ex. Director.
  • Names of children in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures may be shared. None of the children in these programs are available for adoption.
  • New nutrition programs must have prior approval of the board of directors.
  • Confidentiality is of utmost importance and must always be maintained. If concerns arise, the BOD must be contacted.
  • All work related information must be kept on a flash drive provided by AC, and considered AC property. In the event you are unable to continue as sponsorship coordinator, this flash drive must be mailed, registered mail, within 5 business days to the education director.
  • All email communication with donors must be done through the AC email address provided.
