ORGANIZATION: Texas State Independent Living Council

Purpose:

Assist with day-to-day communications and outreach prior to the 2017 Texas Statewide Independent Living Accessible Transportation Summit (event will be spring, 2017).

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct Summit communications;
  • Conduct outreach with exhibitors and sponsors;
  • Secure donations and coupons for the Summit;
  • Draft monthly emails and promotional flyers for Summit media, including Facebook, Twitter, and the Summitwebsite;
  • Follow up with speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, and award winners;
  • Post Speaker PowerPoints on Summit website.
  • Draft and editing the Summit program with a team;
  • Assemble name badges;
  • Create and assemble activity packets for staff and volunteers;

Mission Statement

The mission of the State Independent Living Council is to ensure that Texans with disabilities have access to quality Independent Living services by providing a framework for service delivery.

Description

The Texas State Independent Living Council (SILC) was founded in 1989, is mandated by federal law and operates as a non-profit 501(c) (3), tax exempt organization. The purpose of the SILC is to assist in the development of the State Plan for Independent Living, a detailed three-year plan that sets the parameters and establishes the goals for the provision of Independent Living services in Texas with other state agencies. Other roles of the SILC are systems advocacy, education of the public regarding disability-related topics, and provision of technical assistance concerning the Independent Living philosophy and approach.
