Are you an outgoing professional that could help tutor students in one or more of the following subjects: physical science, biology, algebra, geometry, history, laguage arts, cultural geography and world literature?

We are looking for volunteers to tutor students and keep them focused when doing work. Bilingual in Spanish prefered, but not required.

Tutors are needed after school on Wednesdays from 2:15-3:15 pm.

Colorado Youth for a Change (CYC) is seeking volunteers to support students at Prairie View High School. Our volunteer tutors have an excellent opportunity impact our mission of solving Colorado’s dropout crisis by providing direct support to students who need extra time and attention to succeed in their classes and stay on track for graduation. Volunteers will provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to assist students in mastering course material, completing assignments, preparing for tests, and developing academic skills and habits for their educational success. We are seeking volunteers who *feel comfortable working with a diverse adolescent population, *who want to help make school and course material feel relevant and accessible for students who may have become disengaged from education, and *who can act as a positive adult role model.

Mission Statement

The mission of Colorado Youth for a Change (CYC) is to solve Colorado’s dropout crisis.

Description

Founded in 2005 in response to over 18,000 youth dropping out of Colorado schools each year, CYC works each and every day to solve the dropout crisis. We partner with school districts across the state supporting 1000's of struggling students each year.

Large bodies of research show that the lack of a high school diploma or GED considerably lowers a person’s employability and economic security throughout their lifetime and results in poorer overall health, unstable housing conditions, increased exposure to violence, and higher rates of poverty. In addition, data shows that one person who drops out will cost taxpayers $292,000 over their lifetime. Because even one student who drops out is too many, we are committed to improving the dropout rate through thoughtful community partnerships, dropout outreach & reengagement programs, expansion of school options and educational intervention programs.
