We are beginning to recruit interested volunteers for our upcoming New Jersey Confidential Sexual Violence Victim Advocate (CSVA) training, which is slated to begin in February 2017 (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6PM-10PM). During the 40 hour training, volunteers are educated about topics regarding sexual assault statistics, prevention, and response. Crisis intervention and advocacy support skills are taught and guest speakers, including law enforcement, military experts, and mental health professionals, present information. When the volunteer completes the training and receives the CSVA status, they are required to manage the crisis hotline for three 12 hour shifts per month. (The hotline is forwarded to the volunteer's telephone for their shifts.) In addition to hotline, the advocate's second responsibility per shift is to accompany survivors of sexual assault to the hospital as needed. Although this is a challenging volunteer position, the experience is very rewarding (and looks great on a resume too)! Join our team and support survivors!
