Mission Statement

You Grow Girl! provides comprehensive services for young women to reach their authentic self through the development of life skills, confidence and self-respect.

Description

You Grow Girl! was established in 2002 by a young woman's desire to share her personal experiences of going through the foster care system and having to overcome the barriers of abuse, low self-esteem, and neglect. Her goal was, and is, to empower, uplift and inspire girls, with the message that life’s challenges will not dictate their success. Her journey of reaching out began small, through sharing her story in the forms of inspirational poetry, personal journal entries and spoken word with youth, victims of violence and those in treatment centers and quickly grew into service based work in case management, advocacy based counseling, group facilitation and recreational programming.

We seek to provide a safe forum for girls to tackle the fears, insecurities, and pressures often associated with transitioning to young women, to develop the life and healthy relationship skills they will need as they enter womanhood, to find support in each other and to navigate basic needs resources within the community.

Through our organization’s efforts we hope our community will become a place where girls and young women are able to express themselves creatively without judgment, transcend personal barriers with positive support networks while learning the true value of service to our community so that they may continue to develop individual assets that foster healthy and meaningful lives.
