Interested in working with kids? Want to gain experience in education? This is a great opportunity for you! This Mount Vernon School District after-school program provides a safe and supportive environment for kids to get their homework done, read, make friends and do other activities.
Volunteers will be tutoring students on their math and reading homework. The centers are open to students of all ages, but is primarily utilized by elementary-aged children. Also, since the students normally finish their homework within the first hour, volunteers will lead the kids in games and activities (ie: board games, card games and outside games weather permitting). Additionally, if interested, volunteers can develop enrichment activities/curriculum for this hour. The centers’ atmosphere is very relaxed.
With only 2 fulltime tutors for 15 to 25 students, volunteer tutors help our students receive individual attention when they need it.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in giving back to our community or pursuing a career in teaching.
We need tutors to commit to being present one day a week from 4:30-6:30pm. We look forward to having you!
