Here is an opportunity for someone that is available weekday mornings to pick up grocery donations from local grocery stores for San Leandro Community Food Pantry's weekly pantry event. Involves lifting up to 50 lbs., loading and unloading boxes, weighing the boxes, sorting and putting away the contents of the boxes. Must have a truck, or vehicle that would hold a large load of banana boxes (20 or more). Could involve one day a week, possibly more if you'd like. San Leandro Community Food Pantry is part of the grocery rescue program - grocery stores donate damaged or about to out-date items to organizations in the program. We pick up from our stores, weigh and sort, then use the abundance of items for our weekly food pantry. We serve over 200 clients each Thursday, so we need all the food we can get! So far this year, we have gotten over 100,000# of grocery donations!!
SLCFP was formed to be a part of getting resources to people who are food insecure. We work with the Alameda County Food Bank to offer healthy food for balanced meals to the San Leandro community and Alameda County.
