Learning with friends is fun!

We provide one on one tutoring and nutrition services for children in grades 1-6, and we are also piloting a program for grades 7-8 in September. Our program runs from mid-September through mid-May. While we will continue using on-line approaches in Fall 21, we are planning to return to in-person programming, observing health-related protocols as they evolve.

+ Pre-program consists of the 3:30 - 4:30 hour in which activities/snack are prepared, and students are invited in for quiet games, puzzles, conversations -- or for blowing off steam in the gym!
+ Our tutoring hour runs from 4:30 - 5:30, with 1:1 student/mentor time for homework and enrichment. Supplementary curricula and activities are provided to support tutors. Tutoring services are delivered in a large classroom setting with individual study carrels.
+ The nutrition portion of our program, 5:00 - 6:00, is comprised of a sit-down dinner prepared on-site for our students and involves simple cooking, set-up/clean-up as well as table hosting for our students - guiding conversation and encouraging social bonds.

Volunteers can select work on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday -- offering flexibility for 1-3 hours/week of commitment. Volunteers undergo a background check and receive an orientation before beginning.

About Bound Together

Mission Statement

Bound Together’s mission is to nurture self -worth and academic growth for Pontiac elementary school students, creating a caring community among our families and volunteers.

For 25 years, Bound Together has welcomed, nurtured and encouraged all who are part of its fabric, providing tutoring and nutrition services at no cost to families. We are entrusted with children who are actively working toward improving their academic skills, and who also form strong bonds with each other and the adults who support them during our time together. Bound Together is in session after school every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with multiple one-hour volunteer roles available from 3:30 - 6:00 PM throughout the school year. After every tutoring session the children enjoy a hot meal. The success of the program is a direct result of caring volunteers who give of themselves as an investment in the life of a child.
