Foundation for a College Education (FCE), located in East Palo Alto, California, is a nonprofit organization that offers a comprehensive college access and success program. FCE’s mission is to increase the number of students of color from East Palo Alto and surrounding communities who graduate from a four-year college or university.

STEAM is a year-round program that helps middle school students develop the curiosity, persistence, and resilienceto become successful learners and adolescents.

As a STEAM tutor, you will join a team of lead teachers and aides committed to helping middle school students become effective learners, critical thinkers and communicators.

Middle school is a critical time in a young person’s emotional and academic development. During this period, students develop the skills, behaviors and habits that will ensure that they are ready for college preparatory courses in high school.

When you work directly with students enrolled in the STEAM program, you’re not only sharing academic and life-planning skills, you’re serving as a role model. Your own experiences - college, career, books you’ve read, places you’ve lived - can open new horizons for students just starting to explore the world.

  • Serve as a role model and share your academic experiences.
