To get started, please complete our online volunteer application at www.lvgh.org and we will follow up with you shortly!
Our Computer Lab / Digital Literacy Tutors help open up the world of computers and the internet to adults who are learning English or working to improve their reading and writing skills. This is a great opportunity for people who are comfortable with basic to intermediate computer skills (i.e., using the internet, email, online job searching, Microsoft Word), and who enjoy working with people, to make a real difference in the lives of our adult students.
Volunteers will assist our adult students in developing computer and internet skills and also in completing computer-based learning and job-related activities (such as online job searching, updating resumes, creating email addresses, etc.). This volunteer role is mainly needed at our Hartford Literacy Center, but we do sometimes need computer tutors at our East Hartford location, so please inquire about our current needs!

Description
Since 1972, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford has helped over 10,000 adults from across our region to improve their reading, writing, and English speaking skills. Each year, our 200 volunteer tutors work with nearly 900 adult students in small-group classes using a nationally-recognized curriculum. LVGH recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to provide English literacy instruction to over 850 adults each year. We offer small group classes in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at our Hartford Literacy Center, ESOL instruction at our Wickham Literacy Center in East Hartford, and Basic Literacy at the Prosser Public Library - Wintonbury Branch in Bloomfield. LVGH also offers Computer Literacy, U.S. Citizenship, Writing, Math Literacy, Pre-GED, GED, and other classes based on our students' needs and interests.
