Make a difference in the life of a teen!

How this works -
Spend two hours of your time each week, typically after school) with a youth who wants a connection with an adult outside their family; watching or participating in sport events, hiking, talking, walking, doing crafts, fishing, skating, making something, getting your nails done, or having a bite to eat.
This interaction can have profound lasting effects on their well being and outlook. If you have been positively influenced by a teacher, family friend or mentor, you know how important and rewarding this volunteer work is! Many of these children have no stable adult in their lives, with trauma and difficulties they deal with on a daily basis.
During COVID: virtual meetings and phone calls, as well as physical distancing connections by walking outdoors, meeting at a park or other creative but safe ideas are called for. Especially now during COVID 19, youth need positive outside interactions with adults they can count on - many are stuck at home in less-than-ideal situations and need an outlet outside of their immediate family.

These children are asking for a consistent, reliable, authentic connection (not looking to be 'fixed'), and studies have shown that a relationship built over at least one year is needed to help change attitudes and give them the support that makes them successful.

By being matched with a healthy adult role model who has real life experience and a job, young people involved in the Boulder County community services can gain a unique supportive relationship that promotes positive actions and reduces the likelihood of making bad choices in life. You can be one of those people to introduce other ways of thinking and behaving to a child 11-16 in need of attention and guidance.

Driver's License, insurance, and access to a vehicle are highly recommended. Mentors are gender matched with a specific youth for the duration of the match.
Min. Age: 21. Background check and clean driving record required.
Length of commitment is a firm 1 year after being matched. It may take weeks to several months to find the right match.

No one with a DUI/DWAI/MIP/felony within the past 7 years can be considered.

Meeting times are decided between you and your mentee once you've been matched with a youth (which may take several weeks to several months before an appropriate match is found).

Contact Anne for more information and for the application form. abrubacher@bouldercounty.org -
Please ensure that you are available to attend this training BEFORE you apply for the program.
The Fall 2021 training is 8:30am-12noon Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021 in the Boulder County Justice Center courtyard (for physical distancing, the training will be held outdoors with restroom access in the building).
We're looking for people like you! 16 great community members of all genders. We're in it for the long haul to help these kids become successful adults. We hope you'll join us! Thank you!
