This is a year-round volunteer opportunity.

The Ready Readers Program at the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County provides students with extra help in small and large groups settings, in academic subject areas including; Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science, Foreign Languages, and Social Studies. Retired teachers, education majors, and other community volunteers with a variety of career backgrounds assist in tutoring members. During the school year the program serves 2nd -5th grade as a homework helper during Power Hour, and 7th - 12th grade members one - on - one with scheduled appointments.

Requirements and Responsibilities:

* Complete a volunteer application.

* Are screened by professional club staff.

* Attend a Boys & Girls Club of Collier County orientation.

* Sign agreement to adhere to the Volunteer Policies & Procedures Handbook.

* Available from October - April and ability to provide commitment and consistency.

* Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate with children and teenagers openly and in a nonjudgmental way.

* Willingness to establish a relationship of equal responsibility and respect with a member and help him or her achieve personal and academic/career goals.

* Strong and practical problem solving skills and an ability to suggest options and alternatives.

* Sensitivity to persons of different education, economic, cultural or racial backgrounds.

Who We Serve
We serve 3,000 children and teens, ages 6 to 18, in our clubs and afterschool programs, and through our partnership with the Naples Children and Education Foundation and Florida’s 21st Century.

We offer a safe place for young people to learn, grow and develop ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals who support the educational, emotional, physical, vocational, character, and social development of our youth and provide them with the resources needed to become successful adults.

BGCCC offers award-winning programs to help youth build self esteem, devlop leadership skills, and consider values, and give back to their community.

Nearly 89% of members receive free or reduced lunch, 48% of members come from homes where English is not the primary spoken language, 38% of members live in single parent households, and 63% of members live at, or below, poverty level.
