Challenged Athletes Foundation

SDTC Kids Run

We need great volunteers for our upcoming 28th Annual San Diego Triathlon Challenge. Volunteer opportunities start on Friday, October 22 through Monday, October 25 in the San Diego / Mission Bay area.

Affectionately called "The Best Day in Triathlon, it is an event that gives able-bodied athletes the chance to compete alongside challenged athletes. The event generates over a million dollars for CAF with over 900 participants.

To put on an event this large, we rely on the generosity of hundreds of volunteers leading up to the event. We often have people who volunteer once and become lifetime supporters, because they get to see firsthand our mission in action.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. CAF believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self -esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.

Description

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is a world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved - and stay involved - in sports. CAF believes that participation in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life. Since 1994, more than $48 million has been raised and almost 8,200 funding requests from challenged athletes in all 50 states and dozens of countries have been satisfied. Additionally, CAF’s outreach efforts reach another 60,000 individuals each year. Whether it’s a $2,500 grant for a handcycle, helping underwrite a carbon fiber running foot not covered by insurance, or arranging enthusiastic encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed over a similar challenge, CAF’s mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, athletic lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love.
