Do you love reading to children, and want to foster a lifelong love of books? Join our dedicated team of Books-2-Go volunteers.

Books-2-Go is a project of the Hayward Public Library’s Literacy Plus Program. We recruit, train, and place volunteer story readers at various non-profit agencies throughout the City of Hayward. The goal of the program is to extend the reach of the library, introducing children to the pleasure of stories, books, reading and to promote early literacy. We provide all the books, puppets and songs ... You provide the enthusiasm!

To prepare volunteers for their placement, we offer a one-day training session. Once the training is complete, the volunteer is placed in a mutually selected non-profit agency where he/she will present a 30-minute storytime once a week. Volunteers must attend the one day training session, be fingerprinted and agree to volunteer for six months at one of our selected sites.
