A great opportunity for a service sorority, fraternity, older scout troops or other service organizations. Gather up your members, don your group identifying T-shirts and spend the day at the National Aviary.
It’s EGGstravaganza! Be a part of the most egg-cellent spring party in Pittsburgh! We celebrate eggs and the birds that hatch from them over four fun days. We typically get over 1000 visitors each day! Volunteers 16 and over can help children with an egg-cellent craft (2-3 volunteers per day) or our very popular egg hunt game (4-5 volunteers per day).
In this unique egg hunt, volunteers explain the game then give children a card picturing a bird and its egg. The child must search the grounds for one painted wooded egg that matches. When they find it, another volunteer checks it for a match then gives a eco egg as a prize. All eggs that are turned in must then be hidden again in the garden.
This is a very fast-paced, outdoor game. Most children will get in line repeatedly until they’ve collected all the different egg types. It’s a great way to promote our mission; To inspire a respect for nature through an appreciation of birds. You will learn a lot alongside the children! The National Aviary would love your group to help with this event!
Sign up for one or more dates: April 4-5, 10-11. Each special event day runs 11-3; we’d like volunteers to be here by 10:30.
Volunteers are welcome to enjoy the National Aviary for the remainder of the day.
