8 people are interested
During our public hours, visitors from near and far come to Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site to experience what life was like in old California. The 1844 adobe house, celebrating it's 175th birthday this year, is available to the public via tours by trained docents. Docents bring the history of the place and the people to life through stories and the objects in the museum's collection. After completing docent training you will have a wealth of historical knowledge that you will feel confident and eager to share with curious visitors. After completing training, volunteers are expected to give tours one 4-hour shift per month. Training takes place over 7 consecutive Saturday mornings.
About Rancho Los Cerritos
4600 Virginia Road, Long Beach, CA 90807, US
The mission of Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site is to restore and preserve the structure and grounds; collect appropriate resources; and interpret the relationship of the Rancho's diverse peoples to the development of the Long Beach area. This will be accomplished through a broad spectrum of educational programs, exhibits and publications designed to provide local residents, students, and other visitors with an understanding of the forces that shaped this region.
Once part of an early Spanish land grant, the 27,000 acre Rancho Los Cerritos evolved from cattle ranch to sheep ranch to private home before becoming a City Museum in 1955. The current 4.7 acre site, a National, State and local Historic Landmark, includes an 1844 two story Monterey-Colonial adobe and historic gardens, houses a California History Research Library and hosts many educational programs fro families and youth. The Rancho is open Wednesday through Sunday 1 -5 pm.
