Tutors and kids working together
The bond between tutor and child is not to be underestimated.

Close the achievement gap in Saint Paul by providing one-on-one literacy tutoring to PreK-3 rd grade children who read below grade level. East Side Learning Center provides training, structured lesson plans and ongoing support- no experience necessary! We ask tutors to commit to a minimum of one, 30-45 minute session a week for at least one semester. However, you’re welcome to tutor as many hours as you need or want! Tutoring is available from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday during the school year with adjusted hours in the summer. ***Special projects and one-time volunteer opportunities are also available upon request such as event planning, office work, communications, and much, much more.*** Apply online at http://www.eastsidelearningcenter.org/volunteer/volunteer-application-form, email volunteer@eslcmn.org or call 612-930-3818.

About East Side Learning Center

Location:

740 East York Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55106, US

Mission Statement

"Unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading."

Description

East Side Learning Center (ESLC) strives to be a major force in "unlocking each child’s potential through the foundation of reading." ESLC does this by providing year-round, personalized, one-on-one reading tutoring at no cost to families for nearly 350 St. Paul children (K-3) who read below grade level and do not have the resources to get help elsewhere. The students we serve reflect the vast economic and culturally diversity on the east side of St. Paul with most of our children coming from families that live at or below the poverty line and do not speak English as their first language. ESLC was founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in response to a request by the civic leaders of St. Paul to form an educational partnership. Our vision is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to read at grade level by the 4th grade.
