Certified Pet Therapy dogs and their owners visit a residents in various levels of care as directed by our Life Enrichment department one (1) time each month. Pet therapy volunteers visit with the residents assigned. Volunteers and their pets will not go to individual apartments in Residential Living but may visit residents in Skilled Nursing or Personal Care who would like visits. A job description is given and is signed. There is a pet visitation policy that must be followed which includes that we require a copy of the pet's records indicating that it has had an annual physical, stool check and is up-to-date with all required vaccines and boosters (including rabies). The dog also is required to have current state issued license tags, be clean, well groomed and treated for fleas and ticks. Pets visiting must be certified by one of the recognized certifying agency such as Therapy Dogs International, Therapy Dogs Incorporated, Paws with Patience, Comfort Caring Canines, Love on a Leash, etc.
