The FHC is seeking women and men to assist in the investigation of housing discrimination complaints ("testing"). "Testers" pose as home seekers in a variety of housing rental and sales situations. Hours vary and are flexible. Attention to details is a must.
What is Testing?
Testing is a term that refers to a process of checking the housing market to determine the nature and extent of discriminatory treatment accorded different home seekers. Two individuals, alike in every respect except the variable being tested, are sent to the same rental or sales office. Testers take careful notes of what transpires. Differences in treatment often form the basis for the successful resolution of a housing discrimination complaint.
How to Apply:
If you would like more information on becoming a tester please call the Fair Housing Center using our toll free number, 877-979-3247, or visit our website at http://www.fhcmichigan.org/get-involved/civil-rights-tester

Mission Statement
The mission of the Fair Housing Center (FHC) is to end discrimination in housing and public accommodations and to promote accessible, integrated communities.
Description
The Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan actively works to investigate complaints of illegal housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status, marital status, and age.
Our service area includes Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties.
We provide investigative services, testing, advice, advocacy, conciliation, attorney referrals, and community education. If you think you have experienced housing discrimination, call the Fair Housing Center. We will take your complaint and let you know what your options are.
Our History:
Fair housing laws are not self-enforcing. The NAACP-Ypsilanti/Willow Run, NAACP-Ann Arbor, and the Housing Law Reform project, along with community members concerned with civil rights, began work in 1989 to start an organization that actively protects the civil rights of those who are discriminated against in the rental, sale, or financing of housing. The Fair Housing Center opened in 1992.
