Board of Directors Recruitment
Cause Studio is a fiscally sponsored nonprofit program of FJC - A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds (FJC). As a newer nonprofit project, it allows Cause Studio to concentrate on program development and enhancement while FJC provides fiscal oversight and use of federal tax exemption status aka 501c3. Cause Studio’s immediate governing and fund development responsibilities rely on the immediate support of a separate board of advisors. The board will support the work of Cause Studio and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Cause Studio’s managing director (MD), the Board-MD relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
Leadership, governance and oversight
Serving as a trusted advisor to the MD as s/he develops and implements Cause Studio’s strategic plan
Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Cause Studio for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
Approving Cause Studio’s annual budget, audit/progress reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the MD
Assisting the MD and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
Partnering with the MD and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
Representing Cause Studio to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
Ensuring Cause Studio’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities Cause Studio serves
Board members will consider Cause Studio a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that Cause Studio can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Cause Studio requires to have 100 percent of members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity, but no less than $5,000.
Board terms/participationCause Studio’s Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held bi-monthly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.
QualificationsThis is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Cause Studio’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected board members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.
At this time, Cause Studio is seeking board members with specific experience in at least one of the following areas:
fund development
event management

budgeting
finance
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector

Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Cause Studio’s beneficiaries

Mission Statement
Cause Studio, a fiscally sponsored 501c3 nonprofit initiative of FJC, aims to reduce the number of failing startup nonprofit organizations by providing resources, training and tools that are designed to scale, encourage collaboration and sustain impactful programs and services. Our mission is achieved through a 3-year cohort and curriculum based incubator, community workshops, networking events, and leadership development training.
Description
Cause Studio is a startup nonprofit incubator and training resource initiative. It was founded out of the spirit and understanding that some of the greatest solutions to our community challenges are created by local residents. Many of these residents try to execute these solutions by creating nonprofit organizations yet they lack the business acumen to scale and sustain them. Our organization targets founders, board members, executive directors and volunteers who oversee startup nonprofits that have not been in existence for more than 5 years and/or have operating budgets under $100,000. These individuals typically work a traditional job outside of their nonprofit efforts and have limited budgets. Therefore they are not able to take advantage of nonprofit programs offered during the day. Our programs and services are primarily offered during evening and weekend hours.
Programs and Services
Our organization provides two distinct program offerings for nonprofits serving the North Texas community. The first is our incubator concept, which includes a 9-month on/ 3-month off hands on curriculum based training cohort for 10 startup organizations annually. They receive 9 hours of class training monthly in addition to a 2-3 hours one to one mentoring session.
The second is our community based training. During the program year, community training on various topics are provided to the greater nonprofit community in North Texas.
