Girls Who Code

If you want to expose girls to a comprehensive and unique computer science education, and empower young women and help transform technology into a more inclusive industry, please consider volunteering to instruct at the Folsom Public Library’s Girls Who Code Club during the weekly classes.The club will meet at the Folsom Public Library during the 2017-18 school year to bring high-quality computer science education to 6 th-12 th grade girls. The curriculum is provided by Girls Who Code. Project-based modules include graphic art, video game design, mobile app development, and cryptography, and culminate in a final project of the girl’s choosing that will benefit the community. The club will meet Tuesdays, 5:00-6:00pm. The start date is September 12, 2017 and the end date is March 28, 2018.

Qualifications: Proficient in at least one backend programming language with i ntermediate knowledge of data structures and algorithms. Some experience working with youth is preferred, but not required

Requirements: You will need to register as a volunteer with Girls Who Code and the Folsom Public Library. Re view and understand curriculum. Provide support and encouragement to program attendees. Communicate program needs to Site Facilitator and Student Advisor.

Support: The library staff will provide an initial volunteer orientation. Online training in classroom management and curriculum implementation. Support provided by Site Facilitator and Student Advisor.
