Many older adults in our society are defined by their physical and cognitive abilities, are stigmatized as having less value, and are isolated. At Elderwise, we’re working to change that. We believe that older adults, regardless of physical and cognitive ability, can lead enriching lives full of opportunities to learn, grow, and enrich the lives of others and their community.
At Elderwise, we operate a structured Day Program that includes art, exercise, discussion, and social enrichment but what sets us apart from many other day programs is the value we place on treating each person we serve with a deep level of respect, honoring their experiences, stories, and spirits.
As a volunteer, you will gain skills from our trained facilitators in engaging older adults in a deep, respectful, and meaningful way and will have the opportunity to share in the joy, laughter, and growth of our community. You will have opportunities to engage older adults through creative outlets such as watercolor painting, clay, music, or whatever creative talent you may bring. You will learn to be truly present in your time spent with us and not only will you help create an enriching environment for our older adults, you will gain a deep understanding of spirit-centered care, a concept that you can bring with you into whatever work you do with the aging population.

We strive to recognize and nurture the value and wholeness of older adults, regardless of their cognitive or physical ability, and to meet their need to experience life deeply in the present.
Our vision is for widespread recognition of the intrinsic value of each person and their capacity to live a rich and joyful life, regardless of their cognitive or physical condition. We hope you will join Elderwise in transforming the culture of aging!
