Duties:Front desk volunteers assist EFAA in serving participants in an efficient and effective manner. Volunteers are located in an office behind our front desk and will serve as an assistant to the Front Desk staff. Volunteers will work closely with the Front Office Team to ensure appropriate and consistent services are provided. Volunteers will:
- Answer incoming phone calls and route calls to appropriate staff.
- Do preliminary screenings for eligible services and share information about community resources outside of EFAA service area.
- Check voice messages, enter them into the phone message log, and route them accordingly (For bilingual volunteers only).
- Make appointment reminder calls and inform participants of changes with schedules
- Other general office duties as assigned
Skills:
- Minimum age 18 years
- Interest in service to people of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
- Patience, compassion, and exceptional customer service skills.
- Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor and adapt to a busy and sometimes chaotic environment.
- Experience in MS Office; Word, Excel, Teams & Outlook, and Google Voice for texting, along with database navigation & web research comfort. Ability to navigate web-based software is essential.
- Organizational skills and ability to give and follow directions.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
Training requirements for this position include ~12-15 hours 1:1 training + 12-15 hours shadow/reverse shadow training before volunteers can manage a front desk shift on their own.
Time Commitment: ~3.5 hours per week for at least six months
Volunteers must successfully complete EFAA's background check process and all training requirements before managing a front desk shift on their own.
