The Homework Help program at Village Branch begins August 10. Adults and teens may volunteer to assist children with homework assignments.
(A new Homework Help program is in the planning stages for Northside library, to begin September 19.)
Adults (ages 18 and up) must complete and have an *approved* background check on file with the Lexington Public Library. If interested, please email your full name, phone number and email address to the Volunteer Coordinator, Vicki Hale, at firstname.lastname@example.org, for the background check. Background checks are at no cost to the volunteers.
We do need adult volunteers to be able to commit to a minimum of 2 hours volunteering per week, to defray the cost of the background checks. Court ordered volunteers are not accepted.
Homework Help is held August - May, during the school year (when Fayette County Schools are in session). It is on Mondays through Thursdays, 4:30 - 8 pm. You may choose your own hours within that time frame.
Homework Help volunteers assist K - 12 (but mainly K - 5) students with reading, math, social studies, science and other school assignments. Patience, love of children, flexibility, and a desire to serve children are required.
This will be a meaningful opportunity for you to interact with children from all walks of life, many from bilingual and immigrant households. You will gain experience for your job, scholarship application or resume. You will receive satisfaction from making a real difference in a child's life, and from helping to promote reading and literacy in your community. You will make many new friends, young and old.
On approval of your background check, the volunteer coordinator with contact you to set up your desired volunteer schedule, and send you additional information.
The Village Branch library is located in the heart of the West Lexington/Cardinal Valley Community.
