Background: From October through May, Make-A-Wish(r) Greater Bay Area holds several fundraising events, which feature sizable silent auctions. In 2014, these auctions raised over $172,000 for wishes. At this time, the Events Department is seeking to expand its silent auction offerings in three key areas: wine, restaurant gift certificates, and hotel stays. These three areas are typically the most profitable in our silent auctions, and we believe a focus on them will reap financial rewards for wish-granting. The Auction Follow-up Assistant will report to the Auction Manager.
We are looking for a volunteer who can help 3-4 hours per week, on a regular, weekly basis. The shift must be done during our office hours - 9am-5pm M-F. We can mutually decide what shift time works with your schedule (e.g. Monday 9am-1pm, Friday, 1pm-5pm, or whatever works best with your schedule). We also require that the volunteer be willing to agree to a minimum six-month commitment. All the office work will be done at the Make-A-Wish office in San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow up phone calls to secure donations, in the three key areas listed above: hotels, restaurants and wineries. We’ve sent a first round of solicitation letters to our prospect list, so you’d be calling to follow up on that.
- Track responses and keep notes in Raisers Edge, our database (we’re glad to provide training on how to use Raiser’s Edge)
- Some editing and updating of contacts in Raisers Edge
- Resending donation packets when requested - via email or snail mail
- Miscellaneous projects as needed (including researching new auction opportunities, organizing auction items, folding solicitations letters
- Should be familiar with Outlook, Word, Excel and basic Adobe (pdf)
We’d also love it if this volunteer has an interest in volunteering at Wine & Wishes (Saturday February 4, 2017) and/or Wishes in Wine Country (Saturday May 20 th), as you’ll get to see the impact your work has on fundraising that night - it’s exciting! However, volunteering at either event isn’t required.
